In November the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, Dogs Trust, started work on its first London re-homing centre in Hillingdon, west London. Scheduled to open in Spring 2006, the site will be a flag ship centre and the Dogs Trust’s biggest site so far, re-homing approximately 2,000 dogs per year.

Over £7.5 million is required to build the new home and unlike other charities, Dogs Trust does not receive funding from the government. Clarissa Baldwin OBE, Chief Executive of Dogs Trust, comments:

“We are looking for a tremendous amount of financial support from the dog-loving public to ensure we can meet our targets. We ask everyone to give as generously as possible so that we can continue our vital work in protecting the nation’s stray and abandoned dogs.”

Other great news for Dogs Trust recently was their nomination in the top 10 UK most admired charities at an awards ceremony hosted by Third Sector magazine.
